Juan Hincapie-Castillo, Pharm.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, has been appointed to the Science and Policy Advisory Council for the National Pain Advocacy Center.
The National Pain Advocacy Center, or NPAC, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the health and human rights of people in pain. NPAC is an alliance of scientists and clinicians, civil rights advocates and people with lived experience aiming to transform the systems and policies that pose barriers to the health of people in pain.
“I am deeply honored for the invitation to join this select group of researchers and experts from across the United States,” Hincapie-Castillo said. “Several policies implemented to mitigate the opioid crisis in this country have led to adverse consequences to patients living with pain, and we need to continue working to ensure proper access to pain management treatments.”
In the United States, nearly 20 million people have pain that prevents basic life and work activities.
“Through my research and advocacy, I share the same vision of NPCA of in working towards a world in which pain is treated equitably and effectively, so that all people in pain can lead full and productive lives,” Hincapie-Castillo said.
Hincapie-Castillo is an affiliate faculty in the UF Pain Research and Intervention Center of Excellence and his research interests include the study of drug utilization and safety in the area of pain management, the evaluation of the effects of state and federal laws on patient outcomes (legal epidemiology), and the assessment of patient safety and quality for inpatient pain management.
