UF Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy Specialty Tracks

The University of Florida’s online Master of Science in Pharmacy with a concentration in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy offers four specialty tracks or concentrations. Students can personalize their education by choosing a specialty track that aligns with their current career or the field they would like to work in.

Track Option 1: Managed Care Pharmacy Systems

Track Option 2: Applied Pharmacoeconomics (P-Econ)

Pharmacoeconomics refers to the field that evaluates and compares the value of one drug or therapy to another. Students will learn to critique and apply pharmacoeconomic methods involving cost minimization, cost effectiveness, cost utility, and cost benefit to improve clinical decision making.

Topics include technology assessments in healthcare; health outcomes; healthcare markets; microeconomics in healthcare; statistical concepts and methods used in pharmacy and medical literature; and more. Graduates of the program may participate in a team effort to design and evaluate interventions to improve clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes within a health system.

Students may complete an online Graduate Certificate in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy with a specialization in Applied Pharmacoeconomics or the online Master of Science in Pharmacy with a concentration in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy and a specialization in Applied Pharmacoeconomics.

Track Option 3: Patient Safety in Medication Use

The Patient Safety in Medication Use (PSMU) specialization provides students with the knowledge required for evaluating and improving patient safety. Errors involving medications have been identified as the major source of preventable error in healthcare—now you can be part of the solution to this.

Topics covered include: healthcare quality and measurement; safety interventions and practices; establishing a culture of safety; and examining human factors, ethics, policy and legal issues related to quality and safety in medication use.

Students may complete an online Graduate Certificate in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy with a specialization in Patient Safety in Medication Use or the Master of Science in Pharmacy with a concentration in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy and a specialization in Patient Safety in Medication Use.

Track Option 4: Pharmaceutical Regulation (PharmReg)

This specialty track focuses on the regulatory framework that surrounds manufacturing, distributing, dispensing, and the use of pharmaceutical products with the understanding that the ultimate goal is to ensure healthcare quality. It places pharmaceuticals in the larger context of healthcare.

Topics include Food & Drug Administration (FDA) theory and practice; product labeling requirements; drug approval processes; Medicare and Medicaid; government healthcare regulation; fraud and abuse; and more. This specialty track is ideal for work in drug regulation and oversight, governmental affairs, healthcare benefits administration, or pharmaceutical administration.

Students may complete an online Graduate Certificate in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy with a specialization in Pharmaceutical Regulation or the Master of Science in Pharmacy with a concentration in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy with a specialization in Pharmaceutical Regulation.
